Too bad about the mention of preferring "you" over "thou". If strictly taken, it means a lot of excellent hymns are discarded.

Or it could mean, as is already done, that they are bowdlerized. It's worst when "thee" or "thine" is the rhyme, and a couple of lines of the hymn have to be rewritten to accommodate the change.

I rather think you meant this comment to go on the post above this one - but I agree with you one hundred percent. Sometimes, like latin in the liturgy, we just have to accept that these are heritage items - and sing them as they were written.
